Automatic Transmission Diagnostics

Automatic Transmission Diagnostics

Automatic transmission fault code diagnostics are carried out in our workshop and our diagnostic scanners have the same fault finding capability as a main dealer. When we carry out automatic transmission diagnostics, we also program your vehicle’s automatic transmission module with the latest software for your vehicle, keeping your vehicle’s automatic transmission module software up to date.

We have the capability to undertake automatic transmission diagnostics and fault find for Audi, BMW, Citroen, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Vauxhall and VW. In addition, our diagnostic scanners are also able to identify the fault codes for automatic transmission issues of most other makes of vehicle, including UK manufactured vehicles, vehicles from the Asian market and the USA.

Our automatic transmission diagnostic scanners enable our experienced mechanics to carry out live data analysis in real time; allowing us to check whether the correct signals are being sent and received from each module in your car which is essential for diagnosing faults quickly and correctly. To ensure that automatic transmission faults are diagnosed accurately and efficiently, our highly skilled automatic transmission diagnostic technicians are trained to interpret the data captured by the diagnostic scanners effectively.

At ATS, we offer three levels of diagnostics, the level of diagnostics required is decided by an experienced technician.

1. Free over the phone diagnostics – we specialist in automatic transmissions and with extensive knowledge and experience of automatic transmission, for some faults we don’t even need to see your car to guide you to the best course of action.

2. Quick test diagnostics (charges apply) – you can wait whilst we carry out a quick diagnostic test on your automatic transmission which usually takes approximately one hour. These quick diagnostic tests to your automatic transmission are not as thorough as a full diagnostic test and are usually carried out to establish whether you have a gearbox fault or whether there is another underlying issue causing a problem. The quick test diagnostics will still give us a good overview as to the overall condition of your automatic transmission.

3. Full diagnostic test/Automatic transmission health check (charges apply) – Vehicles must be left with us  for approximately 24 hours. This is our full,  in depth test on your automatic transmission. We carry out a transmission fluid level check and then analyse the condition of the transmission fluid.  A visual check of the automatic transmission is undertaken to check for leaks within the transmission unit. We then undertake diagnostic code reading on the drive train control modules. Finally, we carry out a live data road test on your vehicle from a cold start, right up to running temperature.
